This page contains details of the 11 foot studio model of the Enterprise. My research and documentation is ongoing and may not end up in a final set of plans. There are tons of very good plans of the Enterprise, including those by Kerr, Sasser, Sinclair and Casimiro. The main shortcoming of them is that they attempt to show an idealized version of the design rather than documenting the real world model used for the show. My interest is in the actual models (which is why I've done this research), but most fans of the series seem interested in the idealize (fictional) starship. This first set of illustrations is intended to highlight the differences between the filming (starboard) side and the non-filming (port) side. ![]() Click to enlarge The next couple sets of illustrations focus on the surface details of the primary hull sans paint and decals. ![]() Click to enlarge ![]() Click to enlarge Similarly, the next set of illustrations focus on the surface details of the secondary hull, including the planking used to build it. ![]() Click to enlarge While some of this data is based on studying of photos of the model, additional information was gained from x-rays taken by the Smithsonian during restoration/preservation work over the years (1999 and 2015). The following set of illustrations shows some of those x-ray images overlaid with elements of the primary and secondary hull. ![]() Click to enlarge The next couple sets of images show details of the port and starboard nacelles. ![]() Click to enlarge ![]() Click to enlarge And some x-ray images with illustrations of the port nacelle. ![]() Click to enlarge This set of illustrations shows the start of my study of the nacelle domes. ![]() Click to enlarge And this is a study of the decal graphics created for the series version of the models. ![]() Click to enlarge And this last set outlines some of the modifications to the model made by the Smithsonian back in 1974 so they could display the model hanging from the ceiling. ![]() Click to enlarge |
